Foyle has a rather cryptic conversation with Stafford while standing in the sunshine-filled hallway of SOE’s Hill House shortly before leaving. Stafford’s apparent non-sequiter about SOE having invented a powder that can lock a car’s wheels turns out, later, to have been an oblique warning. A little too oblique, as it turns out.
